During Milone’s decade-long tenure as chairman, Morgan Lewis has growjn from 12 to 22 offices andfrom 1,000 lawyers to more than Milone’s biggest move was the acquisition of 150 lawyersw and three California offices from dissolving San Francisco-based in 2003. The firm also expandedc into Boston, Chicago, Paris, Dallas, Minneapolis and Houston. Morgan Lewis’ profitability has also increase significantlyunder Milone’s leadership. Revenuee per lawyer rose from $440,00o in 1999 to $822,000 in 2008 and profitxs per equity partner tripled during that timefrom $475,00o to $1.45 million. Gross revenu jumped from $397 milliobn to $1.12 billion.
Morgan Lewis said Milone also pusher to increase probono efforts. The firm said total pro bono hours have more than tripled sincd 2005 and virtually every lawyer in the firm is substantivelgy engaged with a probono matter. Recently, Milone has been forcede to make tough decisions caused by theeconomifc slowdown, freezing salaries and billingb rates, laying off 216 lawyers and staff and delaying the start dates of recenr law school graduates by a year.
Milone joined Morgab Lewis in 1977 as an and he was electexd as a partner in 1981 inthe firm'a labor and employment law practice He served as manager of the labor and employment law practicew group from 1995 to 1997 and was the firm’s managing partner from 1997 to 1999.
